I am trying to find a better food for my dog! I can't afford too expensive, but I want to get him off Purina. He is 75 lbs and almost a year old...I just bought Diamond Brand food, but looked it up online and saw the recalls, even though my food is ok, I DO NOT want to risk it........I know real food is the best diet, but I am not 100% sure how to make it..Also how do I make the switch??

Please respond with any information you know of to help me! I will GREATLY appreciate it and I'm sure my big boy will too :) Please and thank you!!

I'm happy with Nature's Recipe Lamb and Rice. (they also make other formulas) It's not top of the line but it's better than anything Purina puts out and it's reasonable. Another pretty good one is Canidae. Bob

1. Good for you for not risking Diamond brand!
2. Keep in mind your dog will eat less of a high quality kibble, so the cost may balance out
3. I rotate between grain-free recipes from Acana, Orijen & Wellness Core (but there are other great brands out there too)

These two links are the best for reviewing and comparing kibbles, good luck!

I also use Acana or Orijen, because my Pippi tends to be heavy and fat.

I tried this old link that I used a few months back, perhaps because I am at work it's glitching but it's worth a try:

http://www.theanimalhouse.net/cost-tool ... st-tool%2F

It calculates the daily cost of kibble for your dog, mine came out to about $1 per day to feed him a high quality, grain-free kibble.

I use a food called Exceed. it comes in Lamb and rice, 26 protien and 12 fat.. Chicken and Rice, 28 protein and 16 fat..Its reasonable priced, and my picky eaters eat it to..You can get a 44lb bag for around 29 dollars at Sam's Club.
