Ok I've sat and read all the comments on this topic and I believe that if you do your homework breeding a carrier dog with a clear is not going to be the end of this wonderful breed...OMG we're from Australia and we have a Champion Bitch (not that you need a dog to be a champion to be of breeding quality)but as we knew we wanted to breed with her we began the search of possible stud dogs for our girl but to be honest what we wanted (lines, improvement of our bitch etc) we could not find anything here so we started looking in the U.S,Ok we find him he has everything, lines we want ,he's correct to standard gorgeous head the only thing was he's a CARRIER!!!! Did that make us RUN...No-way we brought him and imported him over..we know what we have to do once we decide to breed these 2 dogs our bitch is a CLEAR health testing will be done and once puppies are born testing will begin for them..I'm not sure where some of you guys are from but here in Australia our Amstaffs are failing to fall into the AKC standard I mean everyone has their own opinion but we can all read and measure and when the standard says 18-19" males and we've got 23"+ out there makes you wonder why people worry so much about breeding CARRIER dogs to CLEAR when the main worry IMO is making sure that breeders are breeding to the standard. But this is just MY OPINION...

Thanks Cierrasedge...I am still learning, but I tend to agree with you...
My dog comes from some of the good old US lines, so I really do think he is wort perservering with, despite being a carrier. He will just lend so much more substance, soundness and movement to my bitch who, whilst she is obviously quite okay, does lack a little in these departments... Thanks for your reply! |
