Hey guys,

Just wanted to open up this question to the forum.

Do you think we have reached a turning point in BSL and it is on the decline now?

Or is it the opposite? Are we actually headed towards more BSL throughout the country?

While many countries & states are repealing their BSL laws, stating they had zero effect on reducing dog bites, I find others are still just as quick to jump on the breed ban bandwagon :(

It depends on where you live and how informed the legislators are about dog breeds before making BSL decisions. Aside from Miami/Dade county, my state is pretty Amstaff/APBT friendly. I tend to believe it's on the decline - reading more stories lately about trying to repeal BSL laws rather than to implement them. Bob

Bob is clearly not on Facebook ;)

The attempts to enact BSL are still happening, I see the alerts on Facebook pages dedicated to stopping this BS but they very rarely appear in the news.
Maple Ridge, BC Canada is the most recent that wants to ban pitties... Right now in Montreal we are fighting to save a dog who got spooked and scratched a lady with her paw. The woman did not want to press charges but the city wants to seize and kill the dog anyway, it's a witch hunt!!

No, I'm not. I need to get into that about as much as I need a hole in the head. [smilie=clubbing.gif] Tough enough keeping up appearances on the Amstaff, Chevy, Kia, gecko and bird forums. As far as BSL......... is it just on the increase in Canada? Didn't Ohio just repeal it? Aren't they trying to in Miami? Aren't they moving more toward "dangerous dog laws" than BSL in Australia and other parts of the world? Bob

I think it's more of a "two steps forward, one step back" scenario, we're getting there but hit the occasional brick wall.

I think this dog was put down 15minutes ago... Not sure yet knowing fb... IT IS EVERYWHERE!

You're right, they don't show it on the news unless it was about dog attack... But im happy to hear that Wales is talking about it on ITV3 channel

We felt we were let down by BBC again! all of us received identical emails when we made complaints about ill-informed one side baised story about "dangerous dogs act" and the presenter's remark "lets move on to safer animal" with a smile on her face! the programme called One Show on BBC1 channel showed images of aggressive pitbulls before and after the footage and showed Animal warden driving around looking for Pitbull type looking dogs and seized 3 on the spot and explained that they are illegal and dangerous.
Those dogs were Millie, Milo and Cash

Millie got released back to the owner under exempt list, Milo was put down. not sure what happen to Cash. One minute i heard he was being release and then i heard he was on death row.

In the footage, you can see all the dogs were wagging their tails. And Millie have alot of chocolate lab in her.

The one show never made apoloisie about the presenter's remark at the end of the show. The email showed me that they are pro BSL.

Love internet! If you have VPN then you can watch One Show footage about "dangerous dogs" on BBC iplayer outside of Europe.

That is the irony Skylar, Berger Blanc is a FOR PROFIT business and we here in Montreal have spent the last two years protesting against them and their abhorrent practices (immediately PTS any pitbulls & not by a vet either so the animals died horrible deaths, they do not post all lost/found animals in their possession, they deny your pet is there when they really are in their facility, filthy cages, etc... there is a video from when an undercover reporter worked there for a while last summer). The city flat out refused to evaluate Wicca because they knew she'd pass the test with flying colours (which she did).

That the BB evaluated Wicca and found her to be completely NON-AGGRESSIVE is very telling, and they tried to hold off on the death order but in the end they have a duty to respect their contract with the city of Montreal. At least they allowed Chris, her owner, to be present and to say goodbye. We had a petition with over 60,000 signatures and the civil worker in charge wanted her deader than dead regardless of the facts and that no bite took place. The supreme court judge even called Benoit Lacroix to ask him to drop the city's charges against Wicca, he replied "Je m'en fou du chien" (I don't give a sh*t about the dog). This is the mentality we are working with here, and we citizens are now fighting tooth and nail against the city of Montreal's new by-law proposals: they want carte blanche authority to seize your dog with no warrant and to kill it, even for just a scratch if it jumped on someone. This is a civil city worker in charge, he does not like dogs and has zero training on animal behaviour. We are appalled at the draconian suggestions put forward by the city and we won't go down without a fight.

I am simply glad at this point that my borough seceded from Montreal's forced "one island, one city" merger, so we do not share the same idiotic by-laws.

AMAZING news in Massachussets!! They banned BSL! And re-wrote several other canine laws, such as banning the gas chambers, etc...

And if anyone would like to sign the petition for the immediate removal of the city of Montreal's Benoit Lacroix, solely responsible for the decision to kill Wicca for a SCRATCH, can do so here:

Good for Massachusetts! Maybe now I can tell my mom and dad that I own a "pitbull"! :) Actually I believe this is more of a preemptive srike as I don't believe they were ever banned in MA, possibly restricted. Nearby Rhode Island is a different story and should follow suit. MA should just take over Rhode Island, anyway. It surrounds it on three sides and it's army is very small! Bob

They just think she's a dog. (hey, what can I say - they're old) Back when I was a teen and still living with them, I mentioned that I'd like to get a pitbull. NO Way Jose! Not that they would have ever recognized one, but the only thing they knew about them is what they read in the newspapers and heard on the news. Even back in the 80's nearby Providence, RI was trying to ban them. They do love Brandy and Brandy can't give them enough love and kisses when they come to visit. :) Don't tell them a thing! Bob
